What I want to learn

I have been reading on the economic factors of different places.I think that by the end of this year we should definitley go over the economic factors and have a discussion about what areas have more or less and what there economic factors are.Like poorer countries and richer countries. Also I think maybe we could do an essay or something a small piece of writing and everyone will get to pick there own area.

Reflective

This blog has been great were just starting out but I really like them it puts what we think about things out there for everyone to see.I like them because we can express exactly how we feel somewhere other than paper.I like learning how to do more on the blog and make it look as though it expresses me.I would like to learn as much as I can about blogging before I leave high school so that way I can do it in the future.

HAITI :(

The original earthquake that hit Haiti was very devistating. It is estimated to have killed up to 100,000 people. There was another earthquake that hit jan 20th only 7 days later. The aftershock measured 6.1 on the richter scale.Haiti officials are relocating several homeless to small villages that hold up to 10,000 people. They estimate that at least 400,000 people will be moved. Many people are still in shock. We have many funds and relief programs to try to get them back on there feet.

A Song For Solider Boy

"war" by Bob Marley

Until the philosophy which hold one race superior
And another
Inferior
Is finally
And permanently
Discredited
And abandoned -
Everywhere is war -
Me say war.

That until there no longer
First class and second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man's skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes -
Me say war.

That until the basic human rights
Are equally guaranteed to all,
Without regard to race -
Dis a war.

That until that day
The dream of lasting peace,
World citizenship
Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion to be pursued,
But never attained -
Now everywhere is war - war.

And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes
that hold our brothers in Angola,
In Mozambique,
South Africa
Sub-human bondage
Have been toppled,
Utterly destroyed -
Well, everywhere is war -
Me say war.

War in the east,
War in the west,
War up north,
War down south -
War - war -

Rumors of war.
And until that day,
The African continent
Will not know peace,
We Africans will fight - we find it necessary -
And we know we shall win
As we are confident
In the victory

Of good over evil -
Good over evil, yeah!
Good over evil -
Good over evil, yeah!
Good over evil -
Good over evil, yeah!

I picked this song because it relates to our book the rebels believe they are superior to everyone else. The lines good over evil in the end of the book the good conquers the evil.During the book they knew they would win in the end because they were confident just like in the lyrics. Also in the beginning there were just rumors of war and from that day they never had any peace until the war was over.

Civil rights

“Get up, stand up, Stand up for your rights. Get up, stand up, Don't give up the fight.”by Bob Marley

This quote is by Bob Marley and I really like this quote because its saying no matter what your situation you have rights but sometimes you just need to fight for them. Even when the going gets tough you should never give up you should always keep trying. When you`re fighting for your rights you should never let someone walk over you if you think you are wrong you should do something about it. Some rights I would fight for is more rights for Gays.I would choose this because I have gays in my family and I think they should be able to get married and do the same things as straight married couples can. This quote is pretty much just saying that you should always fight for your rights and no matter how hard it gets you should never ever give up.

A Single Slice Reveals The Them
by,naomi shihab nye

An apple on the table
hides its seeds
so neatly
under seamless skin.

But we talk and talk and talk
to let somebody
in.

This book relates to ishmael by saying letting people in.Ishmeal needs to learn to let the staff in so they can help him forget about the war and push images away so he can live a happy life.By saying hiding its seeds ishmael hides his pain and fears from everyone including himself and he hides them very well.So I think that if ishmael keeps up with these things eventually he will have to let someone in.

double-conciousness

Ishmael has double conciousness because he has to live his life as a boy solider but he also has to try and be a kid.His solider life he has to live while he was at war he cant be a kid when he is at war.If he acts like a child out at war he could get shot or stabbed or something very bad could happen. He cant be a solider while being a child because memories of war haunt him and distract him from having fun like children should. When he is being a child he also cannot be a solider because it could turn him against his friends and he could seriously hurt someone or himself.

movie review and text connection

The similarites between God Grew Tired Of Us and a Long Way Gone are that in god grew tired of us and in Long Way Gone they were forced to relocate due to war. Also in both other people in the community work together like Ishmeal and his friends have to to survive. In a long way gone the boys are forced to kill and be destructive but in God Grew Tired Of Us they are relocated to a better place and helped in being supported. The book and movie are very much similar but also very much different.
